Democrats to Change or Repeal Business Tax from Health Care Reform

One provision of health care reform may be getting repealed or changed today as a tax reporting law for small businesses has come under scrutiny. Democrats included a provision in reform that requires small businesses to file a 1099 form for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when supplies or services cost over $600 in a year.
The provision in the health insurance legislation is expected to raise $16 billion but would require loads of paper work for small businesses and the IRS.

House Passes the Toughest Set of Wall Street Reform in Generations

Tonight, the House passed the conference report of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act by a vote of 237-192. These common-sense reforms hold Wall Street and the Big Banks accountable by:
Ending bailouts by ensuring taxpayers are never again on the hook for Wall Street’s risky decisions
Protecting families’ retirement funds, college savings, homes and businesses’ financial futures from unnecessary risk by CEOs, lenders, and speculators
Protecting consumers from predatory lending abuses, fine print, and industry gimmicks
Injecting transparency and accountability into a financial system run amok
Empowering consumers to make the best decisions on homes, credit cards, and their own financial future with a consumer financial protection agency
The legislation now goes to the Senate, which is expected to approve it soon and send it to President Obama for his signature into law.

Key Differences Between House-Passed and Senate-Passed Health Insurance Reform Bills

Senate passage of health insurance reform legislation last week brings Congress closer to providing quality, affordable health insurance to every American. As we move forward through the legislative process, we will produce a final bill that is founded on the core principles of health insurance reform: affordability for the middle class, security for our seniors, responsibility to our children, and accountability for the insurance industry. While both the House-passed and Senate-passed bills are a critical step forward, the House bill has quicker reform, is more affordable, and covers more people. R
